We surprisingly frequently get perfectly general programming questions on our forums: "I don't know how to program but I want to learn how so I can write a Selenium RC test. How do I begin?"

We should write a programming tutorial that walks the user through the basics of writing a program. Their first program should be "Hello World", but their next program should be a simple automated test using Selenium.

In addition to teaching them the basics of programming, it should teach the basics of debugging, with step-by-step instructions explaining how to run the debugger and use it to diagnose a problem.

Ideally, it should be enough so that they can usefully get started, and then link off to essential resources that they should be able to follow to deepen their understanding.
